This is a trip around a unique island with a special quality that attracts many pilgrims every year. Iona has been steeped in religious history for centuries, even before St Columba arrived here in the sixth century and created a monastery, there were druids on the island. TIDAL CORRECTION: In Scottish Sea Kayaking (2nd Edition) the tidal information on the map for the west side of Iona should read the same as the Tidal Times text: N going tidal stream starting at +0600 HW Oban and S going tidal stream starting at -0015 HW Oban.
Fidden Farm provides a great campsite/motorhome base for this trip with plenty of additional paddling options.
The parking at Kintra is very limited, consider starting at Fionnphort or camping at Fidden Farm as an alternative
If wanting to paddle around Erraid Island, then although marked on the map as potentially possible the Sound of Errand is dried out for most of the time. The height of the tide at Oban will need to be greater than 3.5 metres to be able to paddle through the Sound.
