There can be few places in Britain that offer as remote and committing a day’s paddle as Whiten Head. With next to no landings, the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and 250 metre cliffs on the other, it really is an incredible environment. There is little room for error on this trip, but that in itself makes it a paddle that has to be done.

April 2022 – It has been reported that the gate at the regular put on (Ard Neackie, NC 448 597) is locked. Alternative put on’s include:
– Start and finish at Talmine (NC 586 627), overnight at Freisgill Bothy (NC 491 656) or camp at the west side of the mouth of the river Hope (NC 476 623).
– Put on at Sanyo Sands (NC 407 676) OR Traigh Allt Chailgeag (NC 443 656) with a long trolley/carry. Finish at Talmine (NC 586 627). Requires a long shuttle.
